TEF Canada (Test d’Évaluation de Français pour le Canada)
The TEFCanada (Test d'Évaluation de Français pour le Canada) is an examination that tests a candidate’s proficiency in the french language. It is recognized as official proof of language proficiency by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) as well as the Quebec Ministry of Immigration and Cultural Communities (MICC) for permanent residency applications, Quebec Selection Certificate applications and Canadian citizenship applications. It is strictly for Canada.
FORMAT OF THE TEFCANADA EXAMINATION
For permanent residency application
◦ Oral comprehension: 60 questions
Duration: 40 minutes
• Written comprehension: 50 questions
Duration: 60 minutes
• Oral expression: 2 topics to cover
Duration: 15 minutes
• Written expression: 2 topics to cover
Duration: 60 minutes
For Citizenship application:
• Oral comprehension: 60 questions
Duration: 40 minutes
• Oral expression: 2 topics to cover
Duration: 15 minutes

The examination is conducted by accredited centers and holds throughout the year. How TEFCanada is graded
The examination evaluates the French skills of the candidate using a scale of 7 levels that range from 0+ level (beginners’ level) to level 6 (advanced level ).
This scale corresponds to:
• 6 skill levels A1 to C2 of the Common European Framework for Languages (CECR) of the Council of Europe
• 12 Canadian Language Benchmarks (NCLC – Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens).
